The Negaunee Hockey League (NHL) is an adult recreational hockey league based at the Negaunee Ice Arena in Negaunee, Michigan. The league has operated in its current format since 1986.

Player Eligibility and Divisions
Players must be at least 18 years old to join. The league has two divisions, organized by age, skill level, and league needs:
• Division 1 generally includes younger, faster, and more highly skilled players.
• Division 2 typically includes older or newer players.

Current players include men and women ranging in age from 21 to 82.

Schedule and Season
Teams play twice a week on Sunday and Wednesday nights. The season typically runs from early October through the end of March.

Registration and Team Draft
Unlike many leagues, NHL players register as individuals rather than as teams. Teams are re-drafted each season to create balanced competition.

Registration is open year-round, but teams are drafted based on the fall registration deadline. Players who register after that deadline are placed on a waiting list until a spot becomes available.

Yooper Invitational Tournament
The NHL hosts the Yooper Invitational Tournament during the first week of February each year. Over the tournament’s 38-plus years, the number of teams and divisions has changed, but it has always been a great time. Recently, the Yooper Invitational became part of Negaunee’s Heikki Lunta Winterfest.
